Ravi Shastri demands own support staff, advisory committee not amused

first_imgThe Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) is not happy with head coach Ravi Shastri’s demand for his own support staff despite the appointment Zaheer Khan and Rahul Dravid as bowling and batting consultants respectively.India Today is in the possession of the letter written by the CAC to the Committee of Administrators (CoA) that they are completely pained by this move made by the head coach. WATCH FULL VIDEO”We spoke to Mr Shastri about getting Mr Khan and Mr Dravid on board in these capacities, and he readily agreed to the idea of having them in the set-up so that it could benefit the team and Indian cricket as a whole in time to come,” the CAC wrote.Earlier, India Today had reported that Shastri, who was appointed coach till 2019 World Cup, will soon ask for his own support staff and will also be given the men of his choice.Shastri was appointed Team India coach on July 11 while the CAC comprising Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman also named Dravid in the support staff for overseas Test tours as a batting consultant. Zaheer was appointed the bowling coach on a full-time basis. India already have a full-time batting coach in Sanjay Bangar, and with the addition of Dravid and Zaheer along with Shastri, the team now has a dream team in its support staff.But Zaheer, it is learnt, doesn’t want to do the job full time. Shastri is likely to ask for Bharat Arun to be named the bowling coach.advertisementThis comes a day after Shastri spoke to India Today where he said that Dravid and Zaheer’s inputs will be invaluable to the team.”I think invaluable. Even when I was in charge of the team I had a chat with both these players and asked them to spend some time with the boys and share their experience. It’s invaluable. You need some fresh inputs and input always helps,” Shastri told India Today in an exclusive chat from London. I will speak to him. I don’t carry baggage, what happened in the past is not my problem. I will start afresh. Whatever I discuss with Virat will stay between him and me,” Shastri said.last_img
